BEFORE CARE

Exfoliate is a key for flawless and long lasting tan

Moisturiser Check – Important for Your Tan Results

Please take a moment to check the ingredients in your everyday body lotions.
Many popular high-street brands including Dove, Garnier and other mass-produced moisturisers contain ingredients such as:

• Mineral Oil
• Petrolatum / Petroleum Jelly
• Paraffinum Liquidum

These ingredients create a false feeling of moisture on the skin, but they actually block the skin, disrupt pH levels, and break down fake tan much faster, leading to uneven fading and patchiness.

If you want your spray tan to last longer and look smoother, it’s important to avoid products containing these ingredients before and after your appointment.

During your visit, you can purchase high-quality, affordable lotions and body butter products that are specifically designed to hydrate your skin and maintenance your tan.

Shaving & Waxing

Your skin needs time to calm down and return to its natural pH level. Do not shave right before your appointment.
✔ Shave at least 24 hours before your spray tan.
✔ Wax at least 48 hours before your spray tan.

Exfoliation – The Key to a Long-Lasting Tan

How to Exfoliate:

Take a warm bath (20-30 minutes) and complete any shaving.
Use an exfoliating glove/mitt in circular motions (Available at Tesco/Poundland £1, Superdrug/Boots from £4 – reusable!)
Avoid oils & rich shower gels (e.g. Dove) – they contain silicone that creates a barrier, which may stay on your skin even after rinsing.
No need for exfoliating scrubs  (most contain oils).
Rinse off in the shower.

💡 Check your exfoliation: After your bath, rub your skin with a towel while drying. If dead skin rolls off, exfoliate again! Proper exfoliation helps your tan last 7+ days

1 Week Before Your Tan

❌ Avoid self-tanners.

💧 Moisturise daily to keep your skin hydrated – a well-hydrated skin holds the tan better and gives a smoother result. (Avoid lotions containing: mineral oil, petroleum jelly, or paraffinum liquidum. Opti for lotions with oils from seeds such as jojoba oil, almond oil)

24 Hours Before Your Tan

Complete any beauty treatments (facials, lashes, nails, massage, etc.).

On the Day of Your Appointment

✔ Shower at least 4 hours before your tan.
✔ Arrive with clean, dry skin – NO perfume, deodorant, lotions, oils, sweat, or old tan.
✔ Wear loose-fitting clothing or bring some with you.
✔ Leave jewellery at home.

Why Loose Clothing Matters

NO leggings, jeans, tight shorts, or strappy tops.

Tight clothes can cause streaks & rubbing marks from:

❌ Seatbelts

❌ Skin friction (e.g., underarms)

The best outfit? A loose T-shirt & baggy joggers or pyjamas.

Other Important Tips

If it’s raining, bring an umbrella.

Wearing shorts or a dress? Cover your car seat with a towel/blanket.

Spray tanning over sunburn is NOT recommended as peeling skin can lead to a patchy, uneven tan. If you have sunburn, please consider rescheduling or cancelling your appointment for the best results.

⚠ If you attend your appointment without proper preparation or attire, Spray Tan Leicester cannot guarantee the best results.

Set Realistic Expectations

A spray tan is not paint – it works by reacting with the top layer of your skin to develop a tan. However, your skin has its own limitations, meaning you can only tan as dark as your skin allows.

For example, Julia Roberts could never achieve the deep brown tan of Beyoncé, as their skin respond differently to tanning solutions.
