FAQ

IS IT SAFE ?
YES! DHA is non-toxic and the skin darkening reaction is confined to the top layer of the skin only - nothing is absorbed into the body. This is highlighted in the way that a fake tan fades away slowly as the skin cells undergo their natural regeneration process and flake off the body.

HOW LONG DOES A SPRAY TAN LAST FOR ?

It depends on your unique skin. In general your spray tan should last around 7 - 10 days, depending on your before and after care.

HOW LONG DOES A SPRAY TAN TAKE ?
I offer a spray tanning service in my home ( I have separate tanning room ) and the full process take around 30 minutes in total.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY SPRAY TAN ?

Please read 'before care'

WHAT TO WEAR DURING AND AFTER A SPRAY TAN?
What to wear during a spray tan is up to you. Some people go in the nude and many wear just a thong. (Disposable thong available. If you prefer stay in your thongs - please wear black or old).

After your tan, you should wear dark, loose cotton clothes that will cover your fresh tan to protect it. Please wear flip flops or loose fitting slipper ( Disposable slippers available for request).
Never wear tigh tops or leggins / jeans after your spray tan as it can rub and mark your fresh tan before it sets in.
If you have leather seats in car, take a towel or blanket to sit on it.
If you dont wear a bra during your tan you shouldn't put it back on afterwards because the straps and wires may leave lines.
If it's raining bring an umbrella
Mens must stay in own underwear.
Children under 16 must stay in own underwear.

WHAT TO WEAR TO BED AFTER A SPRAY TAN ?
First night after a spray tan make sure you have some soft long pants and long sleeve cotton tee to put on. (Long sleeve/pants will prevent bronzer from transfering).

WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS OF SPRAY TANNING ?
-sunburn
-eczema
-fresh: tattoo, piercing, cuts, scars
-pigment discorders
-extremally dry skin
-skin allergies

WHAT IS TAN LOCK / HYDRATING MIST?
A post tan spray to lock in the colour of the cosmetic bronzer and to drench the skin in moisture and essential oils and prolong the life of your tan. Locks in 95% of the tan and leaves the skin silky soft. Pure Aloe Vera Leaf Juice improves the skin’s natural firmness and hydration. Helps with fading, helps eliminate DHA smell.
(Add to your spray tan for £5)

WHAT IS DRYING POWDER ?

It is a talc-free powder. The powder dries and sets your spray tan eliminating that post spray sticky feeling. Drying powder reduce fake tan smell. (All tans include drying powder).

HOW CAN I PROLONG MY TAN ?

Moisturising after every shower is essential to retain hydration in your skin and keep your tan looking healthy.Be sure to use an OIL-FREE moisturiser, as oil can break down the tan.
After showers try to pat dry rather than rub. From day 3 use a tan extender - gradual tanning lotion. Avoid saunas, swimming pool, long bath.

DOES A SPRAY TAN BLOCK THE SUN ?
NO! The solution used in a spray tan does not contain UV protection from sun rays.

CAN I TAN AFTER A SPRAY TAN ?

YES! Remember to wait for the suggested allotted time (24/48 hours) after a spray tan to apply any products (tanning accelerator, sunscreen). It may be difficult to notice if your skin is darker or burning.

HOW TO CHOOSE FAKE TAN SAFE SUNSCREEN ?
The best is an oil-free, waterproof sunscreen lotion. Stay away from the areosol sunblock because they don't go evenly and contains alcohol.

CAN I TAN AFTER SUNBURN ?
NO! Wait minimum 4 weeks. Sunburns and spray tans don't mix! Your skin will continue to peel upwards of 4-6 weeks post burn even if you don't see anymore physical peel.

SPRAY TAN DURING PERIOD:
A women's menstrual cycle can affect your body's natural PH balance and affect the way a spray tan solution react with your natural amino acids. Some women experience shorter spray tan duration or splotches spots when getting a spray tan during menstruation.

CAN I GET A SPRAY TAN WHILE PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING ?
YES! The active ingredient in spray tan is DHA, which is a non-toxic chemical that react with the outer layer of the skin to create a beautiful glow. I recommend get a spray tan after FIRST TRIMESTR.

CAN I SPRAY TAN AFTER LASH EXTENSION OR NAILS ?
Yes. I would suggest wait 24-48 hours just to be on the safe side.
DON'T DO NAILS OR LASHES AFTER A SPRAY TAN! Soaking, scrubbing, nail polish remover... will remove your spray tan. Sticky pad / tape under eyes can remove your tan around eyes leaving patchy white areas.

CAN I SHAVE AFTER SPRAY TAN ?
Yes. Do all shaving 24 hours before you spray tan appointment (waxing should be done 48 hours before). You can shave after tan but wait few days, remember shaving exfoliates the skin.

HOW LONG AFTER A SPRAY TAN CAN I WORKOUT ?
You absolutely must NOT exercise before first rinse. This is because sweat and friction caused by workouts will ruin the beautiful, smooth finish of your tan. After 24 hours when your tan is fully developed you can go back to exercising as normal.

HOW DOES FAKE TAN WORK ?
Fake tan contains a chemical called DHA (sugar) which reacts with the air and the amino acids in the top of the layer of the skin, causing it to gradually darker. Only the uppermost skin cells are affected.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPRAY TANNING AND GRADUAL TANNING LOTIONS / TAN EXTENDER LOTIONS ?
Most sunless spray tans have a higher percentage of DHA-thus giving a deeper tan. The solutions we use at Spray Tan Leicester are high quality. These high quality solutions also contain Eco-certified DHA, anti-aging and antioxidant ingredients, vitamins and organic and natural based ingredients. You will find your results to be streak-free, odorless and consistent (compared to over-the-counter sunless products).

WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF A SUNLESS TAN INSTEAD OF A UV TAN ?
Spray tanning does not have the potential to give you melanoma, wrinkles, age spots, moles, freckles, or sunspots. People with sensitive skin or people who have a hard time tanning (be it natural or in tanning beds) will find this form of tanning very comforting. One application with spray tanning will be equivalent to approximately few tanning bed sessions, therefore making it cost effective and healthy.

HOW WILL THE FADE LOOK ?
Many factors can affect your fade. At Spray Tan Leicester I choose spray tanning solutions that are high-quality, skin nourishing and proven to provide better fade results. For most, the hands and face fade first due to being sprayed lighter and washing more frequently. Facial cleansers and medications will contribute to fading. A tanning face mist or a facial tan extender lotion is great for touch-ups. Sweat and friction is a cause of fading in areas such as cleavage, inside the elbows and behind the knees. When this fading starts, help the fade process by gently scrubbing these areas to help even it out. You also may get to a point at the end of your tan life where you will need to scrub your whole body.

AT THE END OF MY SPRAY TAN LIFE I NOTICED IT COMING OFF ON MY CLOTHES / TOWELS
What you see is NOT sunless spray tanning product, but your skin cells. They just happen to be colored now, making them visible.

CAN SPRAY TAN BE REMOVED ?
The color produced by a sunless tanning product does not wash off; it simply fades as the upper layers of the epidermis wear away. You can try to speed the exfoliation process by gently exfolaite by exfoliating mitt, you can also use tan remover. It may take a week or more for the “tanned” skin to disappear.

WHY DO I NEED AN EXFOLIATING GLOVES/MITT - WHY CAN'T I USE A LOOFA OR SHOWER PUFF ?
Using an exfoliating gloves/mitt insures smoother softer skin for the spray tan tan application, resulting in an even and longer lasting tan. If you do not use an exfoliating gloves/mitt, you will be tanning skin that is about to fall off and your tan will disappear more quickly. Loofas and puffs do not conform to the body and will result in an uneven exfoliation and can create a “zebra” look to your spray tan.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULDN'T USE ON MY SKIN AFTER SPRAY TAN ?
Avoid scented lotions, oil based lotions, perfumes, astringents, and cleaning solutions with acid or peroxide. Anything harsh or chemical will wear away your tan more quickly. OILS ARE THE BIGGEST ENEMY FOR FAKE TAN.

CAN I SHAVE AND EXFOLIATE THE SAME DAY THAT I SPRAY TAN ?
NO!!!  Your skin need time to calm down and back to own PH balance.

HOW DARK WILL I GET ?
How dark your skin goes will depend on your skin type and the strength of the solution I use during the treatment.

HOW OFTEN CAN I SPRAY TAN ?
You can get a spray tan as often as you want, I recommend coming in every 14 days to give you time to enjoy your current tan, exfoliate, and prepare your skin for your next appointment. Your skin must be free from old tan before applying fresh one.

WHY IS MY SPRAY TAN ALL CRACKLY LOOKING ?
Your skin is dehydrated. Drink plenty of water and moisturise twice per day an oil-free moisturise lotions. (Few lotions which are tan safe: Hempz moisturise lotion, Hemp Nation from Australian Gold, Aveeno moisturising cream, Neutrogena Hydro boost body gel cream or any good quality tan extender).

STREAKS OR STRIPES AFTER TAN DEVELOPMENT ?
This may happend when you take first rinse but you didn't use hands to help bronzer washed off.
Stripes up and down the legs, vertically ?
This is normally cause by razor drag on the skin surface and/or shave products residue left on skin. (Shave should be done 24 hours before spray tan. Please read before care how to exfoliate).

SOMETHING DRIPPED OR SPLASHED ON THE SKIN BEFORE FIRST RINSE ?
Pat dry. Take a large make up brush and blend it. Before first shower you will see lighter area but after shower that should dissapear.

WHY DOES MY SPRAY TAN HAVE WHITE SPOTS ?
Some of the reason why you have white spots are:
- sweat during develop time
- shower/ loions/ perfume... residue
- phyriasis versicolor aka tinea versicolor
- idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis aka IGH
- dripped/ splashes water based products

WILL MY SPRAY TAN HIDE STRETCH MARKS OR SCARS ?
Most old scarred skin will not absorb sunless tanning solution evenly or at all.

I HAVE BEEN USING THE SPRAY TANNING FOR A WHILE, BUT NOW I DON'T GET COLOUR ANYMORE, WHY ?
Some of the reason why:
- hormonal changes
- medication (birth control pills...)
- medications used to treat acne, steroids, antibiotics
- life style changes such as stress increases
- climatic or seasonal changes (skin is more oiler, increase sweating)
- product which you use prevent tanning solution penetration (soaps, lotions... )
- your skin need a break :)

WHY WAIT 24 HOURS AFTER SHAVING BEFORE YOU CAN APPLY A SPRAY TAN ?
When you shaves of course you are cutting off hair but as part also scrapping and cutting away dead skin cells on the skin surface. During this process of scrapping the skin with a sharp blade you are creating tiny micro-tears or cuts in the skin surface. Normally these close up it about 24-48 hours. If you apply a sunless solution to the skin you are also applying it to an open cut or wound. Also opened pores can fill with excess solution leaving "strawberry skin" all over the legs. With any shave lubricants, gel, foam etc. always lighty exfoliate, wash rinse to remove all shave product residues.

ORANGE TAN?
No way! Product which I using are high quality but even if you go orange there can be few reason why:
- very dry skin
- leaving bronzer for too long
- medications
- you are skin type 1 and you want be super dark - no chance.
